In between dance classes, Henley kept himself busy in other ways, such as going to the fitness center where his family had a membership. It helped keep him in shape, even if he did prefer to dance as a form of exercise rather than lifting weights. He tried to get Marissa to go with him, but she often seemed preoccupied with her records and other things. He'd given up on the bench press after a bit, knowing that he didn't have extreme amounts of upper body strength and retired to the tread mills, stepping on one and taking his iPod from the pocket of his sweat pants. Most of the treadmills were taken up and he was lucky to find a free one, next to a girl he recognized from school. "Hey Rozilynn," he offered to her. Most people in East Oak had heard of her, her mother did own all of the Lynda's Kitchens and the food was excellent.
He'd seen her from time to time around the gym, although he normally kept to himself, but it didn't hurt to say hello. Besides, he'd been yearning for some company. Marissa was out all day searching for records again and his parents weren't the best company...

The steady 'thump, thump, thump' of her sneakers hitting the treadmill gave Rozilynn something pace herself to as she ran for her cool-down exercise. After a rousing pick-up game of basketball in fitness center's full court against some of the varsity boys from school, she was feeling quite pleased with herself for being able to keep up. They always saw her as a little girl trying to tough it with the big boys. A slow, satisfied smirk crossed her face as she thought about the game winning point she scored from the free-throw line. Rozilynn's thoughts were interrupted by the sound of her own name. Glancing over, she smiled brightly at the boy on the treadmill next to her. "Call me Roz," She replied quickly, dialing down the speed on her machine so that she was now walking briskly. Her given name was just too much. "Did you get a decent work out in?" She asked, genuinely curious. Henley was someone she'd seen a few times around town or at school, although their scenes were very different.

Henley nodded at her and the correction of her name. He just didn't usually go right to nicknames because it didn't seem appropriate, like you had to be allowed to call someone by their nickname. That was how he viewed it at least. "More or less," he replied to her. "Although this isn't really my kind of work out." It was important, but he'd rather just dance for hours in the studio. However, he wasn't strong in lifting and was trying to get better at it. "I'm just trying some new things for the summer and making use of my family's membership here." He shrugged as he turned on the treadmill, starting out at a slow pace.

Roz smiled again, her eyes moving back to her machine. She practically lived in this gym, if something more pressing wasn't commanding her time. "Something new?" She asked quietly, her curiosity piqued. "What did you have in mind?" Roz didn't normally chat with people while she was working out; she found it distracting..but walking on the treadmill like this, she could have just been going for walk outside. "Maybe I could help," she offered, her voice still a bit quiet.

"By new things, I mostly mean going to the gym," Henley explained with a slight laugh. "Normally I'm at the dance studio at the mall working up a sweat, but my coach suggested going to the gym. Apparently I'm not the strongest guy." He shrugged his shoulders, although he knew it was true. But dancing was a work out that was fun, lifting weights was not. "I sort of gave up though...on lifting. And that's what brought me to the treadmill, so unless you're willing to deal with me trying to lift weights, I'd take back your offer."
He was very easy going when it came to talking to people, especially those who he didn't really feel the need to embellish himself around in East Oak. Rozilynn seemed amicable enough.

"Well..." Roz mumbled, the same satisfied smile she was wearing earlier appearing on her face, "I'm not too bad in the weight department. I kind of have to keep up with it for track and field.. and my step-brothers." She couldn't help but chuckle at the last bit. Her younger twin step-brothers drove her absolutely crazy and it took all she had just to keep them at arm's length. "It can be fun.. anything can be fun with the right kind of attitude, ya know?" Roz knew about that. There was a point in her life when running wasn't her priority.. but when a real opportunity for it to become a scapegoat to college came around, she found a way to push forward.

"Yeah, it's a bit different for dancing, especially since I don't do it through the school. Weight lifting isn't required and honestly, I just suck at it. And I can't say I have any siblings to keep up with. My sister Marissa is more of the artsy type," Henley explained to her. Track and Field and other school sponsored sports made you do weight training. Personally, Henley didn't think he needed it, mostly because he didn't need to ever lift anybody, it was mostly being quick on his feet, all about agility and style. "And I agree with you on that," he said. He usually had a good attitude and wasn't one to be pessimistic, but he honestly didn't understand track and field. Running for just the hell of it?

"It's always good to be stronger.. I mean, weight training helps with stamina, agility.. flexibility. You need your muscles to do all that stuff. You dance.. you're a lot stronger then you're giving yourself the credit for. Just take a different approach." Roz offered, her eyes roving over his body discreetly. She gave him a small smile. In her mind, dancing was just as much a sport as anything else; one just as old as running was.. but what did she know? Roz shook her head to herself, vowing not to broach the subject anymore if Henley didn't say anything else. It was not like her to press things, especially things that were not her business.

"You make a good point," Henley agreed with her after she spoke. It probably would help him to lift some weights, especially if he wanted to get into a really prestigious dance school after high school. He had to do what it takes, he would do what it takes. He also nodded his head. "I guess I'm fairly strong, but you could probably out bench me." He chuckled slightly at that.
In all seriousness though, Roz seemed very knowledgeable about all of this and he could use a work out buddy. Sometimes he just couldn't get himself to go to the gym, he usually went to the studio. "Seems like you should be my personal trainer," he half-joked.

Roz chuckled, her face lighting up a bit. "People end up hating their personal trainers.. but I'm here all the time. I know it might be stretching a bit, but sometimes the time just fly right by when you just get it out of the way." She said with a shrug. Roz glanced at the watch on her wrist. She'd been talking to Henley for nearly twenty minutes but had manage to walking two miles already. Three more and she'd be done. "What type of dancing do you do? She asked, truly curious. The arts wasn't something she was exposed to much, but she liked the physicality it seemed to offer.

"Do you speak from personal experience?" Henley asked with a chuckle. Personal trainers were just there to help you get in shape, although he guessed that some could be rather....tough. "And I'm rarely here, but I guess I should change that, huh?" She was right though, about time passing, it seemed it was pretty quickly.
"A mix of stuff. Jazz and hip-hop are my favorite. I like to try everything though," he told her. He didn't understand how she could strictly get her exercise from the gym. Dancing was so much more fun.

Roz gave Henley a rather sly look. "Perhaps. I practically have a drill sergeant at home. You don't normally get any tougher then that." She said, her tone becoming a bit clipped at the mention of her step-father. "
Outside of the genres of music and what she had seen on television, Roz didn't know much about either forms of dance. It seemed so much easier just to run for exercise, versus having to memorize a routine or something like that. "I've never really known anyone who could dance well.. I honestly couldn't tell you the difference between those two genres." Roz said, her face sinking a fraction trying to recall any reference points she had to dance. Of course, she was drawing blanks.
